Baby Miracle Beats the Odds in Rare Abdominal Pregnancy at JOOTRH!

Baby Miracle Beats the Odds in Rare Abdominal Pregnancy at JOOTRH!

By Lorraine Anyango

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) celebrates another medical marvel! A recent delivery wasn’t your typical case. This miracle involved a rare condition called an abdominal pregnancy.

What is an abdominal pregnancy?

It’s when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in the abdomen. This is very serious, happening only about one in every 10,000 births. Survival rates for babies in these situations can be low.

Meet Baby Miracle Jecinta Achieng!

Despite the odds, Baby Miracle defied expectations. Born at a tiny 990 grams she spent three months in the newborn unit thriving under the care of JOOTRH’s amazing doctors and nurses. Today she weighs 2.5 kilograms

A Journey of Strength for Mom Beatrice

This journey wasn’t easy for Beatrice Akinyi Okelo, a mother of four who recently lost her husband. Traveling from Chemilil for specialized care, Beatrice received an ultrasound revealing the abdominal pregnancy. Following a two-week admission, a successful procedure delivered Baby Miracle.

Going Home with Hope

“Leaving with a healthy baby felt impossible,” says Beatrice, overwhelmed with joy. “I’m eternally grateful to God and JOOTRH’s staff for making this miracle happen!”

The hospital’s expert team, led by the Deputy Nurse Manager at the Newborn Unit, Ms. Connie Omege, is confident Beatrice can care for Baby Miracle. They’ve guided feeding and have high hopes for a healthy future together.

Mama Miracle’s message of hope

Despite challenges, Beatrice inspires others. During her stay, she practiced kangaroo mother care (skin-to-skin contact) and became an encouragement to other mothers in the newborn unit.

Mama Miracle Needs Your Help

While they’re ready for home, financial challenges remain. The stress of Beatrice’s situation impacted her milk production, making formula a necessity. The kindness of well-wishers could make all the difference for this new family.
