Machines Donation Geared to Improve Quality of Services at Obama.

We were delighted to receive a patient’s Monitor, Syringe Pump, Infrared Thermometer and an infusion pump was donated by Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to serve the Obama Children’s hospital.

The items were received by Dr. Maureen Muchela, a pediatrician at Obama and Nurse in charge Mrs. Beatrice Ontita, and other staff members from the children’s hospital at JOOTRH.

“Monitoring the vital signs of sick children at Obama consistently has been an issue due to staffing challenges, the same affected mortality and mobility audits.” Dr. Muchela said while receiving the equipment.

Availability of the patient monitor machine will assist in handling such situations and the child mortality rate is guaranteed to reduce as the machine can show precise information about a patient.

The monitor assists to keep track of the sickest patients in challenging conditions such as a case of inadequate staffing.

It can take the pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation of the patient at the same time, it tells which patient needs oxygen at what time and how they are given the oxygen therapy Mrs. Otinta said.

The unit will also now be able to measure fluids since children consume small doses.

The infusion pump provides accurate and continuous therapy during the administration of drugs, this was being carried out manually

While appreciating KEMRI for the kind gesture, Dr. Muchele noted that the machines will go a long way to improve the quality of services at Obama.

Accurate measurement in the feeding of children patients will be realized and quantities recommended nutritionally will be achieved with the use of the syringe pump.
