The Technical Transition Committee has assured staff of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) that the hospital will undergo a seamless transition from a county facility to a national Level 6 referral and training institution.
Committee Chair Mr. James Ntabo explained that the Ministry of Health had appointed a team of professionals from finance, human resources, planning, and administration to oversee the process. He noted that the committee has a six-month timeline to guide the transition, focusing on staff welfare, payroll and human resource integration, as well as the management of assets, liabilities, and pending bills.
Mr. Ntabo further reassured staff that their anxieties about the future were well understood and that their welfare remained a top priority throughout the process.
The ceremony also marked the exit of outgoing CEO, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, who has been appointed to head Kenyatta National Hospital, and the entry of Mr. Joshua Clinton Okise as the Acting CEO of JOOTRH.
Mr.Okise pledged to sustain excellent clinical outcomes, guide staff and stakeholders through a smooth transition, and ensure the full implementation of Universal Health Coverage by championing Social Health Authority (SHA) registration and advocacy across the region.
Dr. Lesiyampe, who served at JOOTRH for 18 months, was celebrated for his remarkable achievements that left an indelible mark on the hospital’s history. Under his leadership, the hospital witnessed notable transformation in specialized services, research capacity, and patient care. His vision of a people-centered institution that touches lives, restores dignity, and uplifts communities will continue to inspire those who remain behind.
In his parting words, Dr. Lesiyampe urged staff never to lose sight of the principle that defined his tenure, “Patient First”. He reminded them that prioritizing patients with dignity, compassion, and professionalism would always lead to excellent clinical outcomes and preserve JOOTRH’s reputation as a center of excellence in healthcare.
