Dr. Olang’o Onudi

Chairman of the Board

BOARD CHAIR

Dr. Charles Olang’o Onudi is a seasoned medical professional and public health strategist with over four decades of transformative leadership in Kenya’s healthcare sector. A University of Nairobi alumnus (MBChB, 1984) with a Master of Public Health from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, Dr. Onudi has traversed the full spectrum of clinical and administrative medicine. His career is anchored by extensive service as a Provincial Medical Officer across the Rift Valley, Western, Central, and Eastern provinces, followed by high-level policy roles, including County Secretary for Kisumu and CEC Member for Health in Siaya County.
He is most renowned for his visionary tenure as the Director and CEO of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) from 2009 to 2015. Under his stewardship, the college underwent an unprecedented “vertical and horizontal” expansion, nearly tripling its campuses from 28 to 61 and increasing annual admissions by over 60%. By introducing critical new programs in Radiology, Pharmacy, and Anesthesia across regional hubs like Kisumu and Mombasa, he effectively decentralized specialized medical training, cementing his reputation as a champion for accessible healthcare education.
Dr. Onudi’s recent appointment as the Chairperson of the Board of Management for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) marks a strategic return to his roots in Nyanza’s flagship health facility, where he first began as an intern in 1984. His deep institutional memory, combined with his experience managing complex multi-sectoral task forces and international health partnerships, positions him as the ideal leader to guide JOOTRH through its elevation into a premier national parastatal. His wealth of experience ensures the hospital is poised for excellent clinical outcomes.
