This strategic investment marks a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding the surgical capabilities of the region’s premier referral facility. The newly acquired state-of-the-art technology allows surgeons to use a thin, lighted tube (esophagoscope) inserted through the mouth or nose to examine the inside lining of the esophagus (food pipe) for diagnosing conditions like cancer, reflux, inflammation, or blockages, allowing doctors to take biopsies, remove foreign objects, or treat narrowings (strictures) using a minimally invasive approach. This advancement is expected to revolutionize patient outcomes at JOOTRH. Minimally invasive procedures typically result in, reduced pain for the patient post-operation, lower risk of infection, faster recovery times, allowing patients to return to their families and work sooner and shorter hospital stays, which helps decongest wards. In addition to general surgery, the equipment will support a wide range of procedures across various surgical specialties primarily ENT and Urology procedures. This versatility improves diagnostic accuracy and expands the treatment options available to the thousands of patients who rely on the facility.
