JOOTRH Charts Ambitious Course with Inclusive Strategy Workshop

By. Lorraine Anyango Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) is taking a collaborative approach to its future. In a three-day strategy workshop, managers from all departments will work together to craft a five-year plan. Opening the workshop, CEO Dr. Richard Lesiyampe highlighted recent achievements, including exceeding revenue targets. He emphasized aligning the new strategy with national and global health goals, including Kenya's Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Lesiyampe stressed the importance of leadership at all levels for JOOTRH's success. Leaders, from the CEO to department heads, must be proactive, knowledgeable, and passionate. The hospital will utilize a balanced scorecard (BSC) to translate strategy into action and track progress. Building on Achievements Dr. Lesiyampe showcased JOOTRH's recent progress. Stalled infrastructure projects have been restarted, including a new lift and ward renovations. Revenue collection is up significantly, and the new kitchen is nearing completion. The hospital has seen a 35% increase in outpatients and successfully decongested the casualty unit. Looking Forward The new strategy will position JOOTRH for future growth. It aims to expand services, create jobs, and solidify the hospital's role in the evolving healthcare landscape. Commitment to Excellence JOOTRH is committed to continuous improvement. New initiatives include a 24/7 pharmacy in the casualty unit, decentralized patient billing, and a state-of-the-art laboratory. A standalone nursing school and weekend coverage for staff further demonstrate the hospital's dedication to excellence.
