Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) leadership identified a critical element missing from their initial draft strategic plan: a comprehensive stakeholder analysis. This current workshop builds upon the earlier groundwork, aiming to rectify this gap.

The consultant facilitating the workshop, Engineer Dennis Abuya pointed out that the draft strategy overlooked the influence of lower-level facilities within JOOTRH’s catchment area. These facilities’ activities directly impact JOOTRH’s overall performance.

The Balanced Scorecard Approach

To address this oversight, the team delved into the balanced scorecard model, a strategic planning framework used to translate vision into actionable objectives. This model considers four key perspectives:

  • Financial: Measures financial health and performance.
  • Customer: Focuses on patient satisfaction, experience, and loyalty.
  • Internal Processes: Analyzes core processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in achieving strategic goals.
  • Learning & Growth: Emphasizes employee development, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Stakeholder-Driven Strategy

The consultant emphasized the importance of stakeholder interests in shaping strategic direction. “The challenges and problems faced by our stakeholders are the foundation for our strategy,” stated Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, JOOTRH CEO. By understanding stakeholder needs and priorities, JOOTRH can develop a plan that benefits both the hospital and the communities it serves.

Ensuring Strategic Alignment

The team is actively working to ensure all strategic objectives are interconnected and contribute to the overall vision of JOOTRH. This collaborative approach fosters a cohesive plan that addresses the needs of all stakeholders and positions the hospital for long-term success.
